Organizers of the Living Skies Come Alive Fireworks competition shared an update on this year’s event during the chamber meeting last Monday. The fireworks event will take place Aug. 1 and 2 at Moosomin Regional Park.

Organizer Kyle Jeannot said this year’s fireworks competition will feature Alberta representing Western Canada on Saturday night as the defending
champion, while Nova Scotia will represent Eastern Canada on Sunday night.

The weekend will include 15 vendors, four food trucks, axe throwing, beer gardens, children’s activities, a market and live entertainment. DJ Dumo will perform Saturday night, while North of Dewdney will take the stage Sunday.

Wristbands will be available for $20 each at Glasser’s TV, Kari’s Pharmacy, Moosomin Home Hardware and The World-Spectator, with early bird pricing available until July 25.

After July 25 wristbands will go on sale for $25 each. “Obviously, this event is huge for boosting Moosomin Regional Park, but it’s also a boost for the community,” Jeannot said. “Everybody comes through town, whether it’s staying at hotels, buying gas, groceries or stopping at local restaurants. It’s a huge spin-off for the community.”

Jeannot said organizers are looking for volunteers to help with the beer gardens and the progressive 50/50 raffle.

Last year’s raffle awarded an $8,000 jackpot to the winner. “Last year we hit about 2,800. It was kind of like a rebuilding year,”said Jeannot,“We’re expecting to see at least 3,500 people a night this year,”
