Moosomin Tim Hortons has been one of the top fundraisers in Saskatchewan for Smile Cookie Week for the last few years, and is looking forward to setting the record again this year.

Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign runs April 27 to May 3.

KidSport Whitewood-Moosomin and Area are this years Smile Cookie Campaign recipients. KidSport Whitewood-Moosomin and Area offers support to low-income families and kids interested in playing sport.

Franchisee Owner Greg Crisanti says the Tim Hortons team is excited for another year of Smile Cookies.

“We are really excited to have the return of our Smile Cookie Campaign again at the end of the month. It runs April 27 until May 3 and 100 per cent of the proceeds are going toward KidSport Whitewood-Moosomin and Area. We are very excited to bring them on as a recipient this year to help the kids in need of equipment and wanting to play sports. We are looking forward to selling a lot of cookies for a great cause and as always hoping to break the record book.”

Crisanti says they are excited to team up with KidSport for this year’s Smile Cookies sales.

“Every year we like to switch it up as far as recipients go in the area so they can apply for the program, we went through applications, and we thought there is a need for KidSport in the area and it’s a great fit for us. We are looking forward to partnering with them and their board and see what we can do to raise some funds.”

Moosomin leader in Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie Campaigns

Tim Hortons Moosomin has been known over the past three years to set records during Smile Cookie week in Saskatchewan and Canada.

“Moosomin has been a leader in the Smile Cookie Campaign world and we’ve really taken it to the next level,” said Crisanti. “We’ve seen a lot of franchisees in our area as well as across Canada kind of echo and recreate exactly what we’ve been doing. It is great for our community and the surrounding area—we all come together and the amount of cookies we are able to produce and sell during that week in that size of community is unbelievable and something to be thankful for.

“I believe it is our community, our guests, our team, and the volunteers behind it. It really isn’t one person that makes this happen. It is everyone from my staff, to the volunteer decorators, to the businesses that get behind it to everyone who comes into Tim’s every day that week not ordering just one but dozens of cookies for this cause.”

Volunteers needed

Volunteers to help decorate smile cookies throughout the week are welcome to phone Tim Hortons Moosomin to sign up.

“Every cookie sold is $2 and there are no taxes if you buy them in sixes or dozens. We are going to sell the cookies all week and this year all the proceeds are going toward KidSport. You can get your pre-orders in now by calling, we’ve got forms available that you can drop off at the restaurant or you can visit our website—it is live and ready to go as well. We would be glad if people want to volunteer or if or a company would like to send two or three volunteers to help decorate cookies for an hour. The more the merrier and it is great to give back if you are interested in volunteering or hang out in the drive-thru letting people know to purchase a cookie. If people are interested they can phone the restaurant directly and our managers will get them penciled in.”

Goal for this year

Crisanti says the Tim Hortons team’s goal is to beat money raised each year from the Smile Cookie Campaign.

“We always try to beat the records and then go up every year. We will use last year as our benchmark and try to smash the record book even though we have some tough competition. We are looking forward to raising some funds for KidSport Whitewood Moosomin and Area. The team is very excited. We can’t wait to decorate the restaurant and we’ve got some pre-orders starting to come in as well as some volunteers all ready to go. It is a fun week.”

KidSport excited about support

Chair of KidSport Whitewood-Moosomin and Area Beth Oslund says she and the board are ecstatic to be this year’s Smile Cookie recipients.

“We are very excited. This is the first we’ve been chosen for anything like this and this big for KidSport Whitewood-Moosomin. Moosomin does very well with promoting and raising money for the smile cookie campaign and 100 per cent of these proceeds stay in our communities. I’ve been applying for a couple years explaining what our group is all about and finally this year we were the lucky recipients. It is a great honour. You see how well this area supports Tim Hortons and the smile cookies and we can’t wait. I am hoping to get a few more people to help me and get some preorder forms out in the community to encourage people to purchase some cookies and get a few more volunteers out to decorate cookies.”

Oslund explains KidSport in the area has offered support to families for the past 30 years.

“We are KidSport Whitewood-Moosomin and Area. We cover Wapella, Moosomin, Rocanville and Whitewood. We pay the registration fees for low-income families to help put kids into sports. We have been around for 30 years helping support families in the area. I am the Chairperson, and my mom did it for many years and I enjoy the organization and what they do to help. I just don’t want to see any kids not be able to take part in sport. Everybody is trying to make ends meet with the cost of living rising and I just don’t want to see any kids on the sidelines.”

She adds, “It is important to keep these small sports groups in our communities going and include everyone. We’ve had kids succeed in sport with the help of KidSport in many ways and if it weren’t for us they wouldn’t of had that opportunity.”

Oslund says they helped about 30 families put their kids through sports last year in the area.

“We help a fair amount of families in the area. Between skating, hockey, swimming, baseball, soccer, football—about 30 families last year in the area. We have Facebook page that anyone can message us through or they can search Saskatchewan KidSport online or KidSport Whitewood-Moosomin and area and it will come to our page where you can click apply and fill out the form.”
She says the proceeds raised from the Smile Cookies will go toward registration fees and equipment for kids interested in sport.

“It will go right back into our community groups. All of the money raised will go right back toward all of our local sports organizations as well as equipment for kids. It will mean more money to support more families who need it in our area and for the kids interested in playing sports. Come out and buy some cookies!”
