At the Moosomin Chamber of Commerce meeting on Tuesday, there was discussion about four local events that are coming up in Moosomin, including an International Women’s Day event being hosted by Women’s Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan (WESK) on March 12, the 2026 Alzheimer’s Walk in Moosomin on May 30, the Living Skies Come Alive Fireworks Weekend on the August long weekend at Moosomin Regional Park, and Burger Week, which is this week at a number of restaurants in Moosomin, Fleming, Rocanville, and Wapella.

International Women’s Day event
Danielle Rhodes with Broadhead Electric spoke about an International Women’s Day event that she is helping to host along with WESK on March 12 in Moosomin.

The event features three local female entrepreneurs—Kari Kosior of Kari’s Kloset, Kari Meyers of Kari’s Pharmacy, and Alyssa Jeannot of Jeannot Electric, as well as Nicole Campbell with Yorkton Concrete.

“The International Women’s Day panel is from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on March 12 at the MCC Centre. It’s going to open up with networking, appetizers and beverages from our wonderful Witches Brew as well. It will be a moderated panel discussion. There will be some questions that have been pre selected for our panelists and geared to certain panelists, depending on the nature of their business. But afterwards, there will be a session where you are more than welcome to ask the panelists questions that you may have.”

Rhodes says while people don’t need to register for the event, she would appreciate it so that they know how much food to provide. A registration link can be found on their Facebook page or at wesk.ca/events.

Alheimer’s Walk
Rene Whelpton spoke about plans for the 2026 Moosomin Alzheimer’s Walk, which is planned for Saturday, May 30.

“I think we all know someone who has been affected by dementia. We need to come alongside each other in all of life’s challenges and dementia is just one of them. I have been a part of the Moosomin and Area Caregivers Support group for a few years now and that has been a lifesaver for me. Support and research are important in this journey,” she told Chamber member.

“Moosomin is joining the annual National Walk for Alzheimer’s on May 30 for the third time. This year’s theme is “Memories Matter.” Our group has impressed and inspired the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan with our passion, commitment and fundraising in the past two years. We are the little town showing the cities that we can do it.

“Our local focus is to bring awareness to our community of the types of dementia and the supports that are available to families whose lives are affected.

“This year’s walk will again be held at the Legion. Registration is at 10 am, there will be an easy two-mile walk at 11 am, and a barbecue lunch at noon.

“We will be hosting a wellness fair that day inside the Legion with tables from various agencies who can help us age well and provide support for us as we age—our own Age Friendly group, home care etc. We want to bring more education and supports to the Moosomin area to help us live well in our community.

“The official Walk website launch will be March 2 and you can register online as an individual or team. Our local group has our own Facebook page (Moosomin & Area Walk for Alzheimers) where we will be posting information on the walk.

We encourage everyone to register either as an individual or as a team and collect donations to aid in research and to fund programs to support those living with dementia. All donations are tax receiptable.

“We have an exciting opportunity to raise more funds than in previous years as we have an anonymous donor who will be matching donations up to $50,000.

“This year we are challenging businesses to register a team with their employees and families as team members, raise money by collecting corporate and individual donations but be creative as well—guess how many jelly beans are in the jar at your front counter (each guess costs $1)—and to join us on the walk.”

Living Skies fireworks weekend
Kyle Jeannot spoke about plans for the August long Living Skies Come Alive Fireworks Weekend at Moosomin Regional Park.

“We’re excited to do it again this year. It will be a Canadian version—East versus West,” he said.

Jeannot said there will be food trucks, 10-15 vendors on site, and kids activities both days, as well as live bands both nights. He said tickets would go on sale some time in June.

“Things are coming together. We’re starting to look for volunteers for beer garden shifts and stuff like that. We have our bands book, our DJ booked, so everything’s kind of coming together.”

Jeannot said there were 3,200 people through the gates on the Saturday last year, and 2,400 on the Sunday, and he’s hoping they get 3,000 per day through the gates this year.

Burger Week
Kara Kinna spoke about Burger Week, which is taking place from March 2-8 and has 11 restaurants participating from Moosomin, Rocanville, Fleming, Wapella and Maryfield.

“There are 11 restaurants in this year, and I think that’s more than we’ve ever had before,” she said. “We’ve got two new additions this year—Wendy’s Place in Wapella came on board this year, and then Trends Mercantile wanted to join into it this year as well.

“The restaurants say this really does make a difference for them. I’ve been talking to them since this promotion started. We’ve been doing stories on in the paper. They actually see a huge increase in sales that week. They actually say people start asking about Burger Week usually right after Christmas, so that’s how much people look forward to it, and how big it’s become.

“The restaurants look forward to it. The customers look forward to it. Last year, Fleming Windsor was our winner. They’ve got the bragging rights, so we’ll see who gets bragging rights for best burger this year.

“Get out and support the local restaurants and have fun eating burgers next week.”

She added that stamp cards will be handed out at all the local participating restaurants. Once people have tried five burgers, they can leave the card at the last restaurant they ate at for a chance to win Moosomin Bucks. People will also get a chance to vote on their favorite burger.
